Our eyelashes can enhance our beauty that’s why more women want to know how to grow eyelashes. Dark, defined, and thick eyelashes make us look more awake, attractive, and younger. However, this is difficult to achieve for women with a medical condition called madarosis, a name for eyelash loss.

Many women are blessed with long and pretty lashes to make their eyes more beautiful. However, for us with thin eyelashes, we can blame it on our genes or our body lacks the necessary nutrients and vitamins to make it grow thicker and longer. To ensure maximum lash retention, try applying [easyazon_link cloaking=”default” keywords=”petroleum jelly” localization=”default” locale=”US” nofollow=”default” new_window=”default” tag=”fairyhairs-20″]petroleum jelly[/easyazon_link], olive oil, castor oil or vitamin E to your lashes every day using a [easyazon_link cloaking=”default” keywords=”Q-tip” localization=”default” locale=”US” nofollow=”default” new_window=”default” tag=”fairyhairs-20″]Q-tip[/easyazon_link] before going to bed to encourage growth.  Just spread the oil evenly and leave it overnight.  You should see a healthier and more conditioned eyelash in two weeks.

Reasons for eyelash loss

The reasons for eyelash loss vary from one person to another. Our eyelashes can fall off naturally just like our hair, but it will regrow. Pollution and stress play a major role in eyelash loss. Wearing too many eye makeups could be another reason. Rubbing our eyes vigorously is another common cause. Possible D. folliculorum infection which can cause inflammation and swelling of the eyelash follicles could be another cause.

Consult an eye specialist or an oculoplastic surgeon if your eyelash loss does not belong to any of these categories. Xatalan, a drug used to treat glaucoma was reportedly used to prompt eyelash growth, but this can cause your iris to change color. There are some side effects like blurred vision, stinging eyes, and skin rashes.

Our eyelashes naturally fall out just as the hair in our body, but they can fall out for other reasons too.

If you are losing hair elsewhere on your body, an autoimmune condition called alopecia areata may be causing the problem. Alopecia Areata, is a disorder of the immune system causing hair loss. Our  immune cells will attack the hair follicles causing our eyelashes, beard, and eyebrows to fall out. While there is no known treatment for Alopecia Areata, there are topical products that can help.

Trichotillomania Tangle is an impulse control disorder where the person plucks out his or her hair, eyebrows, or eyelashes at the roots. This problem begins at childhood or with the onset of puberty wherein children develop hair-pulling habits, but it becomes a psychological problem if this behavior continues throughout adulthood.

Overactive thyroid condition can result to eyelash loss. An underactive thyroid gland, on the other hand, can result to weight gain. Either way, these conditions could break off the hair, and eyelashes making them thin, dry, and brittle.

Eyelashes could also fall out if you have allergies to the chemical content of mascaras. Some women are allergic to certain chemicals that can cause conjunctivitis and dermatitis. Contact dermatitis occurs when allergens come in contact with the skin surrounding your eyes. Conjunctivitis, on the other hand, take off from the mascara and get into your eyes irritating the conjunctiva, the thin moist membrane covering the surface of your eyeballs.

Blepharitis is an eyelid inflammation due to excessive bacteria growth found on the skin. This is caused by the blockage of the oil glands which could result to redness, itching and swelling. Blepharitis cannot be treated but can be controlled by proper eyelid hygiene.

Chemotherapy can be one of the causes of eyelash loss because this has a direct effect on the hair follicles. Many patients suffered complete body hair loss but once the chemotherapy is completed; the hair will begin to grow. The effect can be short-term and long-term, so consult your doctor before you try another product for eyelash growth.

There are medications designed to improve other health conditions that can cause eyelash loss. Anti-acne medication such as isotretinion, anti-cholesterol drugs, blood pressure medications, and anti-clotting medications are associated with eyelash thinning, but it will grow back once the medication has been stopped.

Eyelash Loss (Madarosis) is not life threatening, but it is frustrating because there is no known cause and there is no solution available either. This could drive you crazy, but there are home remedies you can try to help you grow your eyelashes.

Home Remedies for eyelash growth

As of late, long eyelashes have been more popular. Women know that no eye makeup is complete without an eyelash touch up.  We also know that eyelashes are a vital part of our eye because we don’t feel attractive without it. Although heredity may dictate the length of our eyelashes, we can enhance it to get the desired effect we want. We can exert extra effort to make our lashes look longer the natural way.  Home remedies can help repair damaged lashes and encourage healthy growth.

There are natural techniques to strengthen and lengthen your eyelashes in no time at all, but test the mixture inside your wrist for 24-hours to check for any allergic reactions. And, be careful not to get any substance into your eyes.

Proper Care

Proper eyelash care will result to a healthy amount of growth. This includes taking your eye makeup off before going to bed. Mascara removal can cause severe damage to your lashes if they contain chemical you are allergic to, so be sure to use products that are not waterproof as waterproof mascaras tend to dry out your lashes, which make removal a challenge. Avoid using mascaras for a long period of time. Give your lashes a break to let them breathe once in a while.

Massage Eyelids

Rub your eyelids to increase blood circulation and stimulate the hair follicles responsible for healthy eyelash growth. Wash your hands and use the pads of your fingers to massage the lash line and lids.

Brush Eyelashes

If it seems a little weird to you, there is eyelash brush you can use to groom your lashes twice a day to stimulate growth and promote healthy lashes. If you do this regularly, it will help distribute the natural oils to your lashes.

Diet

Our natural health growth depends on the diet we follow. If our body lacks the nutrients needed to support proper growth, then it will translate to delicate and weak eyelashes.  Our eyelashes are made of keratin, a protein that can benefit from foods like chicken, fish, meat, soy, and tofu beneficial for stimulating hair growth. The vitamin A which is essential to eyelash growth can be found in fish oil, eggs, beans, yoghurt, red, yellow, and orange fruits, while tomatoes’ potatoes and citrus fruits rich in vitamin C have the potent antioxidant our body needs. Calcium is also needed for lash growth, and they are abundant in milk, and dark leafy vegetables.

Petroleum Jelly

Petroleum jelly is a mainstay of home remedies. It is an old-age trick, but it works even to increase eyelash length. All you have to do is use a Q-tip to swipe it on your eyelid before you go to bed. This inexpensive product is the simplest remedy to help grow your eyelashes. Make sure to remove any eye shadow, mascara or eyeliner before you apply the jelly. Wash it in the morning and repeat this treatment three times a week.

Natural Oils

Natural oils like coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, and jojoba oil are popular oils containing vitamins and minerals to help lengthen the lashes and moisturize them. Olive oil is not only a kitchen staple but a beauty treatment with impressive results. Apply these oils to moisturize your lashes using a clean cotton ball for each eye to keep the lashes strong and healthy. Keep the oil overnight and wash off in the morning with a gentle makeup remover.  To enhance the healing properties of olive oil, soak a lemon peel in oil for several days. The natural antiseptic and antimicrobial agent of lemon will help promote healthier lashes.

You can also make your own eyelash serum using Coconut oil, Lemon, and [easyazon_link cloaking=”default” keywords=”Lavender essential oil” localization=”default” locale=”US” nofollow=”default” new_window=”default” tag=”fairyhairs-20″]Lavender essential oils[/easyazon_link]. The coconut oil has natural action to draw out impurities and enters the eyelash follicles to stimulate growth. Add 1 drop of Lemon to cleanse the eyelid, and one drop of Lavender oil to nourish your lashes and follicles.

There are many mascaras with lash accelerator like [easyazon_link asin=”B0043IX95I” locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”fairyhairs-20″ add_to_cart=”default” cloaking=”default” localization=”default” popups=”default”]Rimmel London[/easyazon_link], which can give you instant solution to enhance your lashes with just one coat.  Make sure to remove any speck of makeup before you go to bed because leaving it overnight will make your eyelashes thin because of chemical deposits. If mascara does not give you the desired effect, use fake eyelashes to give an illusion of volume and length. Again, take them off before you sleep because these can harm you lashes.  If applying false eyelashes is too daunting for you, go to a makeup counter who sells them and ask the artist to show you how to do it. Be careful when removing them because they can cause more eyelash loss.

Vitamin E

Take vitamin E supplement daily, if you want to see faster results. Vitamin E is an excellent antioxidant and anti-aging treatment essential for healthy skin and damage cells repair. You can also apply vitamin E oil twice weekly. Take a few liquid capsules and break them open. Rub the oil along your lashes using an eyelash brush or old mascara wand to work the oil more evenly. You can also apply castor oil. It has vitamin E to help boost the growth of thick eyelashes.

Almond oil is a great source of unsaturated fats. Apply almond oil if you notice that your eyelashes are thinning. Apply almond oil as you would with vitamin E and olive oil.  You can also combine almond oil, vitamin E, and olive oil for optimum effect. Gently rub the hair follicles with oil to stimulate and boost blood circulation.

Take note that, not all home remedies involve essential oils. Green tea can also maintain health and stimulate lash production. The caffeine and flavonoids properties will make your lashes happy because it will stimulate growth and help clean the follicles to allow growth. Prepare a cup of green tea and brew it for five minutes. Do not add sugar or other ingredients. Let it cool and soak two cotton balls in the tea for each eye and carefully smear it over the eyelashes line to take advantage of the green tea beneficial properties.

Conclusion

Our eyelashes are one of the most ignored parts of our face. It is only when our eyelashes start thinning that we notice it.  Women of all ages get self-conscious when their eyelashes fallout. Long and thick eyelashes are a sign of femininity and beauty in most cultures that women care for them with home remedies because of its efficacy in eyelash growth. Great article. Just be sure that, if you use lemon juice or lemon peel, to wash it off in the morning before going out in the sun. Citrus greatly increases sun sensitivity and can cause sometimes permanent brown spots.

I tried: castor oil: and green tea – I had to, because my eyes looked too tired and “red”. Cold wet teabags (pure green tea) for 15-20 minutes totally solve this problem; and I noticed, that after many procedures, my eyelashes became fuller!.. I started to be curious about the effect and my friend suggested to me quicker results with Cherish Lash serum. I guess I will not be disappointed

Great, great, women should have a lot of useful information and make themselves prettier with the help of natural stuff. Just I wouldn’t suggest vaseline – it remains a petroleum product, purely chemical, which may cause side effects with time. I would replace it with effective conditioners such as Cherish Lash. Amazing results and good, non-harmful ingredients.
